Congratulations to KL2 Scholar Dr. Anais Rameau on her new appointment as Director of New Technologies in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, beginning December 15, 2021. This appointment will expand on Dr. Rameau’s amazing work with laryngology, dysphagia, and voice restoration through the creation and application of cutting-edge biomedical technologies in the treatment of laryngological disorders.
Dr. Rameau started her research with the CTSC in 2018, when she was awarded the KL2 Scholar Award on “Bedside aspiration screening using artificial neural networks in the recognition of the “wet" voice.” Her research focuses on the use of artificial neural network strategies to isolate those acoustic parameters across all patients with dysphagia and establish a universal voice screen for aspiration risk. Her KL2 mentoring team includes Holger Klinck, PhD, Director of the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, Cornell University, and Fei Wang, PhD, Associate Professor of Population Health Sciences, Weill Cornell Medicine.
In addition to her KL2 Scholar award, Dr. Rameau won the 2018 CTSC Health Hackathon Grand Prize Award for an innovative project on personalized speech recognition through silent articulation. The aim of the project was to give those who are voiceless a voice using “subvocal speech.” To further the research presented at the CTSC Health Hackathon, Dr. Rameau co-founded the company MyophonX to explore wearable technology that expands silent communication. This device uses machine learning with silent articulation to aid communication in patients with decreased vocal capabilities.
Dr. Rameau is currently an Assistant Professor of otolaryngology at Weill Cornell Medicine and working as a laryngologist at the Sean Parker Institute for the Voice.
The CTSC KL2 Career Development Core Program supports junior faculty and senior residents and fellows by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training, and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical Translational Investigation within a team research environment.
