Covid-19 Vaccination Events

Volunteers Needed to Staff COVID-19 Vaccination Sites In Under-Served and Under-Represented Communities

The Weill Cornell CTSC in partnership with the WCM Office of Medical Education,  Community Healthcare Network (CHN) and FEMA is currently operating 4 vaccination sites at faith based-institutions in under-served communities. This is in an effort to overcome vaccine hesitancy and other barriers in these communities heavily impacted by COVID-19 and disproportionately under-vaccinated. These events are staffed by volunteers from WCM, NYP, Hunter College School of Nursing and funded by FEMA through the NYC-DOH.

We are looking for volunteer students, staff, and faculty to help staff these sites 4 days a week. The communities we will be serving are:

    1. Convent Avenue Baptist Church in Harlem.
    2. Fort Washington Collegiate Church
    3. New Jerusalem Worship Center in Jamaica, Queens

Weekday events (Tue-Thur each week) are from 5:30PM to 10PM. Check the sign-up sheet for bus pickup time and volunteer arrival time.

Weekend events (Sat & Sun each week) are from 9:00AM to 6PM. Check the sign-up sheet for bus pickup time and volunteer arrival time.

There are 3 volunteer roles to fill at each event:

  1. Vaccinators: Licensed medical professionals and students certified by WCM are eligible for this role. Students must have at least 1 year of clinical experience and BLS certification to be eligible. Contact Dana Gurvitch, MD (Dao2002@med.cornell.edu) for more info on student certifications.
  2. Administrators: Anyone is eligible for this role. Admins will help register patients at checking, direct patient flow, and register patients for their second doses.
  3. Medical Oversight: WCM/NYP Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners are eligible to serve as medical oversight for a vaccination event.
Please reach out to Jeff Zhu (Jez2003@med.cornell.edu) first if you are interested. We need some paperwork on file before you are eligible for this role.

Transportation and Food:
Transportation is provided from WCM (70th st and York Ave) to each event and back once the event ends.
One meal is provided at each event to all volunteers.

Registering to Volunteer:

Due to the ending of the State of Emergency in New York by Governor Cuomo, students are no longer allowed to vaccinate, and we have ended this project and switched over to a new one. Between July 6th and July 24th, student volunteers will be attending the vaccine sites to offer point of care diabetes and heart disease testing. The vaccine sites will be shut down on July 24th, 2021 and all programs will end.
Student volunteers can sign-up using the below links. Those interested in medical oversight, please reach out to Jeff Zhu (Jez2003@med.cornell.edu) for details on the modified role for these events.
Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note each event is a separate tab on the signup sheet.
