Clinical & Translational Unit Resources

The Clinical Research Units include both Adult and Pediatric Inpatient/Outpatient Units. Forming an integrated, dynamic resource, it includes professionally staffed patient care inpatient and outpatient units for adults and children, and resources and services for conducting scientifically sound studies. A trans-institutional resource, it is integrated with partnering institutions and a robust community engagement and outreach program.

Facilities:

  • The Adult Outpatient Unit, F260-F263, consists of 5 examination rooms, study room for continuous infusion studies, spacious reception area.
  • The Adult Inpatient Unit, located on Baker 15, consists of 20 single bed rooms staffed 5 days a week, 24 hours.
  • The Pediatric Outpatient Unit, HT3, consists of 2 examination rooms and treatment room and reception area.
  • The Pediatric Inpatient Unit, Greenberg 6 North, consists of 6 rooms with eight beds and an inpatient procedure/ treatment room.

Services Offered:

Research Manager acts as the primary contact point for investigators who have questions and who need assistance in preparing protocol applications or in carrying out their studies.

 A Research Navigator assists investigators in preparing study documents and provides information about CTSC resources, regulatory and administrative issues related to their study and refers the Investigator to appropriate CTSC staff for consultation.

 Specimen Processing Express (SPEx). The CTRU General Core Laboratory has been expanded to include sample processing as per protocol specifications, and laboratory technicians are available from 6 AM – 6 PM to process blood, urine, stool, and sputum specimens. A dedicated space for Specimen Processing Express (SPEx) has been added. SPEx provides: 1) increased hours of operation to include Monday to Friday, from 6am to 6pm; 2) DNA extraction and cell preparation; and 3) sample packaging and shipping. 

Research Nutrition Services. The Nutrition Research Core  offers professional nutrition services for research studies including the preparation of specialized food, meals, and formulas prepared in the equipped metabolic research kitchen for inpatient and outpatient contexts. This Core provides consultation for protocol design employing in nutrition research methodology as well as diets that are metabolic balanced, specifically weighed or ordered, or of otherwise controlled composition. Laboratory verification of food/formula composition is also available. This Core is equipped to provide nutritional analysis of recorded dietary intake captured with food records, 24-hour recalls, and food frequency questionnaires. Nutrition Research Core bionutrition team also conduct indirect calorimetry, body composition analysis, nutrition counseling and monitoring, and collect anthropometry measurements. 

 A Research Nurse to assist with the conduct of the study and administer investigational product and perform study related procedures

 A Phlebotomist to perform study related venipuncture.
