Congratulations to KL2 Scholar Gunisha Kaur, MD, MA, on her K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award that she received earlier this year from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Her award is a continuation of her KL2 grant proposal “Chronic Pain Diagnosis and Treatment in Torture Survivors." This award will fund her research for five years and total $975,000 in funds. Dr. Kaur's K23 award will be mentored by Hugh Hemmings, MD, PhD, Senior Associate Dean for Research at Weill Cornell Medicine; Dan Fitzgerald, MD, Director of the Center for Global Health at Weill Cornell Medicine; Cary Reid, MD, Irving Sherwood Wright Associate Professor in Geriatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine; Inmaculada de Melo-Martin, PhD, Professor of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine; and Arthur Kleinman, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School; with Paul Christos, DrPH, Associate Professor of Research in Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine as an advisor.

Dr. Kaur started her research with the CTSC in 2018, when she was awarded the KL2 Scholar Award. Her research fuses two academic disciplines, clinical medicine and medical anthropology, to apply rigorous scientific methodology to human rights work. Her KL2 mentoring team includes Dr. Hugh C Hemmings, Jr., MD, PhD, Senior Associate Dean for Research, Weill Cornell Medicine; Zhenglong Gu, PhD, Professor, College of Human Ecology, Cornell University-Ithaca; and Arthur Kleinman, MD, Anth, Professor of Anthropology, Harvard University. Dr. Kaur also participated in a CTSC Pilot Study in 2019 as contributing staff for Sandeep Raj Sabhlok, MD.

Dr. Gunisha Kaur is currently an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and co-medical director of Weill Cornell Medicine's Center for Human Rights.

The CTSC KL2 Career Development Core Program supports junior faculty and senior residents and fellows by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training, and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical Translational Investigation within a team research environment.
