News and Congratulations

Congratulations to CTSC KL2 Scholar alumnus, Babak Navi, MD, MS, on his contributions in Neurology Today.

Dr. Navi provided expert commentary in Neurology Today regarding a large randomized, placebo-controlled study that found patients with acute ischemic stroke who have comorbid or metastatic cancers have comparable rates of intracranial hemorrhage and favorable outcomes after undergoing endovascular thrombectomy. Per Dr. Navi, this study shows that patients with cancer should be given “the benefit of the doubt and treated aggressively at presentation for stroke in order to avoid a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

Dr. Navi was appointed a KL2 Scholar in 2012 where his research focused on "A Pilot Trial of Enoxaparin versus Arpirin in Patients with Cancer and Acute Ischemic Stroke". During his KL2 training, Dr. Navi's mentoring team included Dr. Lisa DeAngelis of Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Katherine Panageas of Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Dr. Constantino Iadecola of Weill Cornell Medicine.

Dr. Navi is currenty working as an Associate Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine, an Associate Professor of Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medicine, and an Associate Attending Neurologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

The CTSC KL2 Career Development Core Program supports junior faculty and senior residents and fellows by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training, and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical Translational Investigation within a team research environment.
