News and Congratulations

Congratulations to Arnab K. Ghosh, MD, MSc, MA, CTSC KL2 Scholar and Master's degree alumnus, on being appointed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Climate and Health Scholar. Dr. Ghosh is one of seven scholars selected in the 2023-2024 cohort from across the globe.

Dr. Ghosh will be hosted by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), working closely with NIH scientists to provide his knowledge in climate and health specifically at the NIA but also NIH-wide. The NIH Climate Change and Health Initiative is an urgent, cross-cutting NIH effort to reduce health threats from climate change across the lifespan and build health resilience in individuals, communities, and nations around the world, especially among those at highest risk. Through the NIH Climate and Health Scholars Program, the National Institutes of Health Climate Change and Health Initiative brings Climate and Health scientists from outside the U.S. federal government to work with NIH staff to share their knowledge.

Dr. Ghosh, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, was appointed a KL2 Scholar (2019) and received his Master's degree (2023). His research is now funded through a NHLBI Career Development Award, the National Sciences Foundation, National Institute for Minority Health and Disparities, the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, and the Environment Defense Fund.

“The KL2 program was foundational to my research career and the CTSC’s support gave me a tremendous opportunity to build my skills in research design, analysis, grant and manuscript writing, and team science. I want to acknowledge and thank my CTSC mentors—Dr. Martin Shapiro, Dr. Jessica Ancker, and Dr. Said Ibrahim. In addition, I would like to extend my thanks to Dr. Safford, Chief of General Internal Medicine, and Dr. Evans, Chief of Hospital Medicine for their support on my research journey."

The Master's Degree in Clinical Translational Investigation combines rigorous academics and strategic, practical skills, challenging students to apply scientific theory, concepts, methods, and innovative, team-oriented management to help solve complex biomedical and health issues.

The CTSC KL2 Career Development Core Program supports junior faculty and senior residents and fellows by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training, and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical Translational Investigation within a team research environment.
