Congratulations to TL1 Trainee Leslie Modlin, MD, for receiving the ASCO Conquer Cancer Merit Award at ASCO 2020.  In an abstract entitled, "Effects of Radiation Therapy on Clonal Hematopoesis," Dr. Modlin and her team concluded that CH-PD was “associated with higher radiation doses for pelvic or head and neck RT, but not other anatomic sites after controlling for systemic therapies”. She was also appointed as Chief Resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she is in her final year of training.

Dr. Modlin was appointed as a TL1 trainee in 2019 and is currently continuing her Master's Degree mentored research project.  Her research focuses on assessing radiation sensitivity in young breast cancer patients who are carriers of germline mutations, as well as racial disparities in genetic testing.  Dr. Modlin is mentored by Lior Braunstein, MD, Radiation Oncologist at MSKCC, and Dr. Kelly Bolton, MD, PhD, of Medical Oncology at MSKCC.

The CTSC TL1 Training Core Program supports early career development among pre- and early post-doctoral trainees by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical and Translational Investigation in a team research environment.
