News and Congratulations

Kudos to KL2 alumni Edward J. Schenck, MD, on his presentation at Weill Cornell Medicine’s COVID-19 Immunology forum titled, “Clinical and Pathological Features of COVID-19” on June 19th. Dr. Schenck was a part of an impressive panel of experts speaking on the immunological effects of COVID-19 from the pulmonologists perspective.

Dr. Schenck was appointed a CTSC KL2 Career Development Award Scholar in 2016 and completed his research project on necroptosis in human sepsis and sterile inflammatory response syndrome. He was under the mentorship of Dr. Augustine Choi, Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean at Weill Cornell Medicine. His secondary mentors included Dr. Fernandez Martinez, Chief, PCCM at Weill Cornell Medicine; and Dr. Yuelin Li, Assistant Attending Behavioral Scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering. In 2017, Dr. Schenck was a contributing staff member for Kiichi Nakahira’s research on Mitochondrial heteroplasmy in sepsis, at the time a KL2 scholar, now also an esteemed alumni of the CTSC, providing excellent advice to Dr. Nakahira along the way.

The CTSC KL2 Career Development Core Program supports junior faculty and senior residents and fellows by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training, and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical Translational Investigation within a team research environment.
