CTSC KL2 Scholar Babak Navi Isolates Relationship Between Recent Cancer Diagnosis and Stroke
Assistant Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Dr. Navi and his team were able to isolate the effect, independent of other comorbidities, of a new cancer diagnosis on heightened risk of stroke. You can read more about his discovery here.
CTSC KL2 Scholar Michael Satlin, MD, Awarded K23 Research Career Development Award
Building a career as an independent researcher in academic medicine requires innovative thinking and creativity; training and good mentorship; and taking advantage of key opportunities. Michael Satlin, MD, a recent KL2 scholar of the Weill Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), has achieved the next step on his path with his recent award of a K23 Research Career Development grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). CTSC KL2 Scholar Bishoy Faltas, MD, is American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award Recipient
Dr. Faltas is a recipient of the ASCO merit award in Genitourinary Cancers for his KL2 project, "Clonal Heterogeneity In Platinum-Resistant Metastatic Urothelial Cancer," and will be presenting the preliminary findings this Friday, February 27th, at the annual Genitourinary Cancers Symposium.

CTSC's 3D Printing Course and Core Facility Open to All
Introduction to Biomedical 3D Printing Course, March 3-5, 2015:
The CTSC invites you to participate in a new course on Biomedical 3D Printing that is open to anyone interested in learning about the applications of 3D printing in biomedical and clinical research. We will engage participants using interactive demos of the 3D printing technologies, materials and equipment. Participants will also learn how to successfully develop their projects through use of the CTSC 3D Printing Core Facility. We will use traditional medical imaging data such as CT and MRI, and data acquired from contemporary 3D scanners, to enrich participants' understanding of the applications of 3D printing. Credit is available through the Weill Cornell Graduate School.
20 minute one-on-one consultations with a CTSC 3D printing expert will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 3-4, from 2:30-5:30 pm.

CTSC 3D Printing Core Facility:
All investigators with an interest in developing novel biomedical products with applications to improving human health are invited to utilize the CTSC 3D Printing Core Facility, located at Weill Cornell Medical College. The core provides access to two printers, a Stratasys uPrint and Fortus 250mc, as well as 3D printing software and expert consultation services to assist in product development. Examples of possible products include medical diagnostic tools, prototypes, anatomical models, and surgical visualization aids. Join us for the CTSC spring skill acquisition seminar at the Griffis Faculty Club from 8:30am - 5:00pm. This all-day event will comprehensively address:
- Tips & strategies for composing a manuscript, including revisions and resubmission
- Choosing the appropriate journal or publication
- Efficiently producing data necessary to publish
- How to write with clarity and precision

April 13, 2015: Achieving Health Equity Through Community Partnerships
Co-sponsored by the CTSC and the Hunter College Center for Translational and Basic Research, this 28th annual symposium, "Achieving Health Equity Through Community Partnerships: Innovations in Community-Based Participatory Research," will be held on Monday, April 13th, from 8:30am - 6:00pm in the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. May 6, 2015: SoCRA CCRP Certification Exam
The CTSC will hold a SoCRA CCRP Certification Exam on May 6, 2015, at Weill Cornell Medical College. Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) established the Certification Program for Clinical Research Professionals in order to create an internationally accepted standard of knowledge, education, and experience by which clinical research professionals will be recognized by the medical research community. Clinical Research Professionals (CRPs) may function as a clinical investigator, research nurse, pharmacist, administrator, coordinator, data manager, quality assurance manager, regulatory affairs manager or educator in clinical trial management. Those individuals so approved may use the title "Certified Clinical Research Professional" or "CCRP."
REGISTRATION:
All applications and payment must be submitted directly to SoCRA no later than Monday, March 23, 2015. Seating is limited so we encourage you to submit your materials as soon as possible. SoCRA CCRP Certification Exam information, including eligibility requirements and application form, is available here.
