CTEP Mentor, Dr. Costantino Iadecola, keynote speaker at Aarhus University CTTH Workshop 2013
Dr. Iadecola, Director of the Brain and Mind Research Institute at Weill Cornell, Anne Parrish Titzell Professor of Neurology and mentor to KL2 Scholar, Babak Navi, spoke about "Neurovascular Coupling in Hypertension and Alzheimer's Disease" at the 2013 Aarhus University CTTH Workshop in Denmark. CTEP Ombudsperson, Dr. Valerie Johnson, Lifetime Achievement Award in Pediatric Nephrology October 2013
Dr. Johnson, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Nephrology at Weill Cornell, was recognized by the Kidney and Urology Foundation of America for her work and commitment in the study of pediatric nephrology. Read more here.

CTSC Research in Progress Luncheon on Friday, February 21, 2014
The next luncheon will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014, from 12:30 - 1:30pm in the Payson Solarium (P-224) and hosted by Yuan-Shan Zhu, PhD. The luncheons, hosted by CTSC faculty, feature student presentations of their research progress.

Featured presenters are:

  • Leah Burke, MD, CTSC Masters Student in Clinical and Translational Investigation, Fellow, Infectious Diseases, WCMC. Dr. Burke will be presenting on her MS project: Prediction of acute hepatitis C treatment response in patients with HIV.
  • Danielle Novetsky Friedman, MD, CTSC Masters Student in Clinical and Translational Investigation, Instructor, Pediatrics (Survivorship), MSKCC. Dr. Novetsky-Friedman will be presenting on her MS project: The Retinoblastoma Survivor Study (RBSS): Chronic Medical Conditions and General Health Status of Adult Survivors of Retinoblastoma.
  • John Lee, MD, CTSC KL2 Scholar, Instructor, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine, WCMC. Dr. Lee will be presenting on his KL2 project: Intestinal Microbiota and Acute Rejection of Renal Allografts.
  • Xu Yang, MD, CTSC Masters Student in Clinical and Translational Investigation, Assistant Scientist in the department of Orthopaedic Research at HSS. Dr. Yang will be presenting on his MS project: Parathyroid Hormone Enhances Osseointegration of an Intra-articular Titanium Implant in a Novel Mouse Model.

The CTSC Summer Intensive Fellowships in Clinical & Translational Research for Medical Students is Offering a 2nd Round of Applications 
The CTSC Summer Intensive Clinical/Translational Research Fellowship for Medical Students is an 8-week continuous program that provides medical students with an introduction to basic, translational or clinical research.  The student's participation in this program may be used to fulfill the Advanced Biomedical Sciences (ABS) Experience requirement. The fellowship includes a stipend in the amount of $1500 and may be combined with Federal Work Study funds for a total combined funding of $3,000. Individuals from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. To apply, please send an email to Dr. Brian Lamon at medstudentresearch@med.cornell.edu.
 
Applications are due by Friday, February 28, 2014.
