CTEP Alumna, Dr. Erika Ambramson, selected for International Medical Informatics Association Yearbook
Dr. Abramson, 2009 graduate of the MS in Clinical & Translational Education Program, was recognized in the Yearbook of Medical Informatics for her article titled, "Physician experiences transitioning between an older versus newer electronic health record for electronic prescribing."
CTEP Alumnus, Dr. R.V. Paul Chan, appointed to the Pan-American Association of Opthalmology’s Board of Directors
Dr. Chan, 2008 graduate of the MS in Clinical & Translational Education Program, was named to the Pan-American Association of Opthalmology's Board of Directors. The group's main objective is to prevent blindness through the collaboration and education of ophthalmologists. Read more here about the organization.
CTEP Mentor, Dr. Costantino Iadecola, addressed the International Society of Vascular Behavioral and Cognitive Disorders’ Sixth Congress
Dr. Iadecola, Director of the Brain and Mind Research Institute at Weill Cornell, Anne Parrish Titzell Professor of Neurology and mentor to KL2 Scholar, Babak Navi, spoke about "Understanding Neurodegenerative and Vascular Factors in Dementia" at this year's International Society of Vascular Behavioral and Cognitive Disorder's conference. CTEP Mentor, Dr. Kyu Rhee, appointed to the Infectious Diseases Society of America Research Awards Committee
Dr. Kyu Rhee, William Randolph Hearst Clinical Scholar in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases and mentor to KL2 Scholars Scott Weisenberg, MD, and Elizabeth Alexander, MD, will be helping the Infectious Diseases Society of America improve public health standards through a focus on infectious disease. CTEP Mentors, Drs. Spector and Bonassar, recognized at the World Technology Summit November 2013
Dr. Jason Spector and Dr. Lawrence Bonassar were recognized at the 2013 World Technology Summit for their work building artificial ears using 3D printing technology. Dr. Jason Spector served as mentor to TL1 Trainees, Natalia Fullerton and Esther Teo, as well as to CTSC Medical Student Summer Fellows, Stephanie Chu and Daniel Garcia. CTEP Mentor, Dr. Theodore Schwartz, awarded the Gentle Giant Award
Dr. Schwartz, Professor of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell and mentor to CTSC Medical Student Summer Fellow, Samir Patel, was given this award by the Pituitary Network Association for his contribution to the field of pituitary tumor surgery. Read more here.
CTEP Mentor, Dr. Thanakorn Jirasevijinda, invited to speak at the Ciclo Internacional de Workshops em Comunicação Clínica e Profissionalismo
Dr. Jirasevijinda, Associate Professor of Pediatrics Education at Weill Cornell and mentor to CTSC Medical Student Summer Fellow, Crystal Castaneda, spoke at a conference hosted by the University of Porto in Portugal in September 2013 about issues in clinical care standards. Read more here.

January 3, 2014: Journal of Science Translational Medicine Associate Scientific Advisorships Call for Nominees
Every year, Science Translational Medicine makes a selection of early career physician scientists to serve on their Associate Advisory Board for a one year term, reviewing scientific literature and publishing 8 to 10 Editors' Choice summaries over the course of their term serving.
To be eligible for selection a candidate must meet the following criteria:
- postdoctoral degree
- work at a CTSA training or education program
- work at another kind of training or education program
- hold their own or are listed on a K award
- hold their own or are listed on an institutional or foundational award
Interested students must be first selected by the CTSC in order to be considered by Science Translational Medicine. Please send self-nominations to ctsc_k30@med.cornell.edu NO LATER THAN January 3, 2014 with the subject header: SciTM Nominations [LastNameFirstInitial]. Nominations include a one-page cover letter with a copy of the most recent curriculum vitae (CV). CTEP will select the candidate(s) to be nominated to represent the WCMC CTSC.
The CTSC Summer Intensive Fellowships in Clinical & Translational Research for Medical Students is Now Accepting Applications
The CTSC Summer Intensive Clinical/Translational Research Fellowship for Medical Students is an 8-week continuous program that provides medical students with an introduction to basic, translational or clinical research. The student's participation in this program may be used to fulfill the Advanced Biomedical Sciences (ABS) Experience requirement. The fellowship includes a stipend in the amount of $1500 and may be combined with Federal Work Study funds for a total combined funding of $3,000. Individuals from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. To apply, please send an email to Dr. Brian Lamon at medstudentresearch@med.cornell.edu.

CTEP REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS
The Clinical and Translational Education Program (CTEP) is offering three Request for Applications (RFAs):
1) CTSC KL2 Scholars Award – up to $80,000 per year & $12,000 research related (2 years) – provides post-doctorates protected time to pursue advanced training and skills to conduct independent multidisciplinary C/T research in a team environment. Scholars pursue research at 75% protected time (50% for surgeons). More information here.
2) CTSC TL1 Training Award – up to $27,232 per year (pre-docs), up to $62,030 per year (post-docs) (2 years) – supports early pre/post-doc career development; provides advanced training & skills to conduct interdisciplinary C/T investigation in a team environment. TL1 Trainees pursue research training at 100% time and effort. More information here.

CTSC TRAVEL AWARDS to Present Abstract at Translational Science National Conference
CTSC is sponsoring Travel Awards for scholars and trainees to present at the 2014 Translational Science Conference in Washington, DC on April 9-11, 2014.
Eligibility is dependent upon having your abstract accepted for poster or oral presentation. The CTSC Travel Award will cover the conference registration fee, travel, 2 nights room and board, and poster printing cost, award total up to $1000 per trainee/scholar.
Deadline to submit your abstract: Wednesday, January 29, 2014
Complete instructions for submission can be found online. When you have completed the abstract submission process, please print a copy of your submitted abstract and email it to the attention of My Linh H. Nguyen-Novotny at myn2001@med.cornell.edu.
March 20, 2014: WCMC Medical Student Research Day (MSRD)
Medical Student Research Day is a chance for our CTSC Summer Medical Student Fellows to present their fellowship research project. Presenters this year will include five CTSC Fellows: Jonathan Reiss, Rachael Venn, Myles Melton, Samir Patel, and Brian Fidali.
The CTSC Summer Intensive Clinical and Translational Research Fellowship for Medical Students is an 8-week program that funds medical students and provides them with an introduction to basic, translation or clinical research. The program includes a summer research project under the mentorship of a CTSC faculty member, attendance at weekly seminars in the department that the student is conducting research, completion of a CTSC Research grant writing course, a poster or oral presentation of the student's work at the WCMC Medical Student Research Day, and a Scholarly Report.
