News and Congratulations
Congratulations to CTSC TL1 Trainee, Neil Gallagher, PhD, whose poster received an honorable mention at the Fall 2023 CTSA Program Annual Meeting, "Leveraging Real World Data (RWD) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Advance Translation."
The Fall 2023 CTSA Program Annual Meeting covered topics including Decentralized Clinical Trials, AI in Clinical Research, Real World Data/Real World Evidence (RWD/RWE), and Training in the Science of Translation with a poster and networking session designed to provide CTSA trainees and scholars with a platform to present their work and an opportunity to network with CTSA leadership. Dr. Gallagher's poster entitled, "Identifying Real-Time Biomarkers of rTMS Efficacy," addresses the question in rTMS research on how to optimize the effectiveness of treatment, given the nearly infinite space of stimulation protocol parameters that could be tuned (e.g. frequency, location, etc.), and the relatively slow and labor-intensive process of collecting feedback in the form of clinically-observed behavioral symptom profiles and their attempt to facilitate this optimization process by identifying EEG-based biomarkers of effectiveness during rTMS treatment for major depressive disorder.
Dr. Gallagher is a current TL1 Trainee, appointed in 2022, where his research is focusing on "EEG-based Network Biomarkers for Precision Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder via Accelerated Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation." During his TL1 training, Dr. Gallagher's mentoring team includes Dr. Conor Liston, Ph.D., M.D. of Weill Cornell Medicine and Dr. Mert Sabuncu, Ph.D. of Cornell University.
The CTSC TL1 Training Core Award Program supports early career development among pre- and early post-doctoral trainees by providing salary support, protected time, advanced degree training and practical skills necessary to conduct interdisciplinary Clinical and Translational Investigation in a team research environment.
