CTEP Mentor, Dr. Christopher Mason, Receives Young Investigator Award
Dr. Mason, CTEP Mentor to 2012 Summer Intensive Fellowship Medical Student, Anna Starikov, is the recipient of the Bert L and N Kuggie Valee Foundation's 2014 Young Investigator Award in recognition of his work in tumor evolution. He is an assistant professor of computational genomics, physiology and biophysics at the HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Institute for Computational Biomedicine and you can read more here.
CTSC TL1 Training Awardee, Dr. Paige Yellen, Publishes in Cancer Letters
Dr. Yellen's work, "Inhibition of fatty acid synthase induces pro-survival Akt and ERK signaling in K-Ras-driven cancer cells," appears in the October 2014 edition of Cancer Letters.

Friday, November 7: CTSC Research in Progress Luncheon
The CTSC's Research in Progress luncheon was held on Friday, November 7, 2014, and hosted by Dr. Marcus Reidenberg.
Featured presenters were:
- Elan Diamond, MD, CTSC Master's Degree Candidate and Clinical Fellow in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Diamond presented on his MS project, "The Taxynergy Trial: Predicting Drug Efficacy Through Drug Target Engagement in Prostatic Circulating Tumor Cells."
- Adriana Rossi, MD, CTSC KL2 Scholar and Assistant Professor of Medicine in Hematology and Oncology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Rossi presented on her KL2 project, "Minimal Residual Disease Evaluation in Multiple Myeloma."
- Katherine Van Oss, MD, CTSC Master's Degree Candidate and Preventative Medicine Resident in Healthcare Policy and Research at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Van Oss presented on her MS project, "Voices Through Cameras: Learning About the Experiences and Challenges of Minority Government-Insured Overweight and Obese New York City Adolescents Using Photovoice."

CTEP REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS
The Clinical and Translational Education Program (CTEP) is offering two Request for Applications (RFAs):
1) CTSC TL1 Training Award
2) Master’s Degree in Clinical and Translational Investigation and Advanced Certificate in Clinical and Translational Investigation.
Applications due January 21, 2015. Please check our website for more information about the RFAs.
Represent the CTSC at Translational Science 2015
We highly encourage each and every trainee and scholar to submit an abstract to the 2015 Translational Science Conference and compete for a CTSC Travel Award.
CTSC is sponsoring Travel Awards for scholars and trainees to attend and present at the 2015 Translational Science Conference in Washington, DC on April 16-18, 2015. Translational Science 2015 is a national conference bringing together all of the disciplines involved in clinical and translational research for the shared benefits of networking and education. It also offers a variety of ways for you to share your experiences, challenges, and fresh approaches with professionals from around the country.
The conference focuses on engagement opportunities with leaders and peers and messages from plenary speakers. Educational sessions are designed to provide information on the latest translational science information. You will have time to collaborate and share information through poster presentations, mock study sections, advocacy training, and published research. Trainees and young investigators are also able to gain visibility at the meeting.
Eligibility for the CTSC Travel Award is dependent upon having your abstract accepted for poster or oral presentation. The CTSC Travel Award will cover the conference registration fee, travel, 2 nights room and board, and poster printing cost, award total up to $1000 per trainee/scholar.
Complete instructions for submission can be found online. When you have completed the abstract submission process, please print a copy of your submitted abstract and email it to the attention of My Linh H. Nguyen-Novotny.
Call for 2015 Vincent du Vigneaud Research Symposium abstracts
The Vincent duVigneaud Memorial Research Symposium is held annually by the Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences and is requesting abstract submissions! We highly encourage our students/trainees to submit their abstracts for the symposium, particularly our Master's Degree candidates, KL2 Scholars and TL1 Trainees who present their research as part of our program requirements. The Vincent DuVigneaud committee will be sending out submission instructions in February. Please contact Paul and Danica with any other questions!
